From its Miami Vice style theme music to the fact that a patrolman performs a Starsky & Hutch slide across his car boot in the opening seconds of the game, Beat Cop is a tribute to the delicious cheese of 80s television cop shows. Actually, your beat is just a single street, and you'll recently get to know the characters and shopkeepers in your care, as well as the several scams they'll have a have aTry and co-opt you into. If you're going to keep up your alimony payments a meagre police salary is never going to be enough. The somewhat narrow gameplay loop of patrol, arrests, and parking ticket distribution is initially leavened by an over-arching plot that spices up otherwise samey days on the beat. When the plot eventually slows down things begain to feel workaday and a little dreary but up to that point it's an engaging and amusing arrest 'em-up, replete by period detail.
