Once the system is in place, senior officials at the department headquarters in Chennai going to get real time access to the data.The department has trained 118 people, including its staff, in use of the software. "We do it in early morning and evening because animals come out only the time the sun is down. It includes taking a 2km walk along a straight line and noting down sightings of animals, species, their exact location from our point, density of vegetation etc," said Boominathan. "Each beat going to have 3 staff and one volunteer accompanying them," Boominathan added.
