- More than 1 million Google accounts – including authentication tokens – have been compromised by the Android malware strain known as Gooligan, security firm Check Point reported on Wednesday.Hackers can use the stolen credentials to gain access to Gmail and Google Photos, Docs, Drive, Play and GSuite.Further, the cybercriminals can generate revenue by installing apps from Google Play and rating the apps on behalf of the user.

- Malicious software designed to attack Android smartphones has breached the accounts of more than a million users, security researchers said on Wednesday.The report by Check Point Software Technologies said the malware dubbed targets devices running Android 4.0 and 5.0, which represent nearly 74 per cent of mobile devices using the Google-powered operating system.The attacks can steal email addresses and authentication data stored on the devices to access sensitive data from Gmail, Photos, Docs and other services, Check Point said.

Android malware steals access to more than 1 million Google accounts

- A new Android malware has managed to steal access to more than 1 million Google accounts, and it continues to infect new devices, according to security firm Checkpoint."We believe that it is the largest Google account breach to date," the security firm said in Wednesday blog post.The malware, called Gooligan, has been preying on devices running older versions of Android, from 4.1 to 5.1, which are still used widely, especially in Asia.

- By Robert McMillan, Dow Jones NewswiresMalicious software disguised as legitimate apps for Android smartphones and tablets has seized control of more than one million Google accounts since August, according to research from security firm Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.The apps had innocent-sounding names, such as StopWatch, Perfect Cleaner and Wi-Fi Enhancer.But they exploited known flaws in older versions of the Android operating system to take control of devices and install other apps and ad-spewing software without permission.
