The NSW government has given the green light to Android-based smartphone payments in all 64 of its Service NSW customer shopfronts across the state.It is boasting that the Android Pay tap-and-go capability makes it the first government in Australia to offer smartphone payments for government transactions.The adoption of Android Pay is an early dividend from the state's multi-million dollar investment into a new payments backend for Service NSW.

The Australian State of New South Wales (NSW) has adopted Android Pay at is "Service NSW" one-stop-services-shops.The decision to use Google pay means the State's citizens can now use their phones to pay traffic, fines vehicle registration fees and myriad other payments with a mere swipe of their phones.The Register imagines that means publicans can even use their Androids to sort out their annual liquor licence fee.
Service NSW now accepts Android Pay for government services
The New South Wales government has launched an integration with Google's Android Pay, allowing customers to use the digital platform to pay for government services at all Service NSW centres across the state.Currently, Android Pay is only available in shopfronts, with the state government confirming plans to make the platform available on Service NSW's digital stores, website, and app."Around 90 percent of people now have a mobile phone, and with the popularity of Android phones, it makes sense for us to provide this quick, efficient option for our customers," NSW Minister for Finance, Services, and Property Dominic Perrottet said in a statement.
